Due to the common practice of “sniffing” passwords on public WiFi hotspots by spammers, it is best to set all of your devices to use an encrypted connection to the mail server. Below are the settings details followed by specific instructions for Outlook, Android and iPad/iPhone.
NOTE: REPLACE YOURDOMAIN.com in the instructions below with your website name. For example, if your email is joe@example.com, you would replace “YOURDOMAIN.com” with “example.com”.

To update your Android Phone or Tablet to secure email connection:
Tap the settings icon (3 dots in a column)
Tap settings
Tap account name
Scroll to Incoming Settings
Tap Incoming Settings
Username: your email address
Password: your email password
IMAP server:
mail.YOURDOMAIN.com
Port: 993
Security Type: SSL/TLS (Accept all certificates)
Tap DONE
Tap Outgoing Settings
SMTP Server:
mail.YOURDOMAIN.com
Port: 587
Security: STARTTLS (Accept all certificates)
Require Sign-in: Checked
Username: your email address
Password: your email password
Tap Done
Your connections will now be encrypted when sending/receiving emails.
Tap Settings
Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Tap account name
Tap Account name again
Tap Advanced
Select “ON” for Use SSL
Authentication: Password
Server Port: 993
Tap Account button at top left of screen
Tap SMTP mail.YOURDOMAIN.com
Tap mail.YOURDOMAIN.com
Select “ON” for Use SSL
Authentication: Password
Server Port: 587
Tap Done
Tap Main button at bottom of device to return to your Home Screen
Note: If you get an error message, press continue. You will likely get this message twice.
Open Outlook 2010
Click FILE, then INFO, then Account Settings, and finally Account Settings
Double-click your email account name
Click MORE SETTINGS
Click Advanced
Check “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)”
Change SMTP port from 25 to 587 (or 26 if 587 does not work for you)
Use the following type of encryption: TLS
Click OK
Click “Test Account Settings”
A message will appear saying “Do you want to continue to use this server?” Click YES
Your email account is now set to use encrypted connections to the mail server.
Note: With Outlook 2010, you will periodically get the “Do you want to continue to use this server” message when you first open it and check your email. To prevent this message in the future, please contact support to get an updated mail server name.
